LAHORE, PAKISTAN — On Sunday, during worship service, two Muslim suicide bombers outside two churches in Lahore, Pakistan, killed at least 15 Christian men, women, and children, and wounded more than 80 other Christians.
“I am completely devastated by the incident that took place today,” said Aamir, a Christian Freedom International co-worker based in Lahore. “There were blasts outside two churches; an act of terrorism. Many innocent lives have been lost and families wrecked. Policemen can be seen everywhere and people are heartbroken, especially the Christians who have suffered such an atrocity,” said Aamir.
“Every Christian in Pakistan prays for all those families who have lost loved ones,” said Aamir. “They will be in our prayers and our hearts cry out for them.”
A Pakistani Taliban splinter group, Jamaat-ul Ahrar, has claimed responsibility. The suicide bombers detonated their explosives minutes apart in a majority Christian neighborhood of Lahore. Police say the churches were targeted.
According to Aamir, “As a Christian it is not easy to absorb the harrowing act that took place today. We hope and pray that God will grant the strength and peace to every Christian on this fateful day.”
Christian Freedom International is providing much needed security cameras to churches in Lahore, thanks to the support of caring Christians in America. Five different churches in Lahore are installing security camera systems funded by CFI this week alone.
“Most of us don’t have to worry about suicide bombers or jihadist death squads when attending church. But in Pakistan, Christians who go to church risk their lives every Sunday,” said Jim Jacobson.
“It is very stressful. Yet, each week, tens of thousands of believers faithfully gather together in houses of worship throughout this Muslim nation,” said Jacobson.
“Believers come together to worship Jesus Christ despite the constant threat of Islamic suicide bombers, death squads, and surveillance by Muslim terror organizations. Many churches in Pakistan have been attacked, destroyed, and pastors and congregants martyred by jihadist ‘warriors,’” said Jacobson.
