As most Americans were enjoying the recent Thanksgiving holiday, many persecuted Christians in Egypt faced an almost daily barrage of assaults on their families, homes, and communities:
● November 22 – Ramy Ragy Bushra, a Christian man, was the victim of a break-in at his
repair shop in Mallaw city, in the Minya province. After breaking down the door of the
shop, the Muslim attackers ransacked all the contents of the store.
● November 23 – In the same city of Mallaw, a Christian man was robbed of 85,000 pounds
by a Muslim gang. Christians are known, and targeted, by the Muslim Brotherhood as easy victims.
● November 24 – In the village of Delga, in the Minya province, Nasser Samir and his
cousin, Emad Demian, were abducted from Nasser’s home by a Muslim gang. Following
the abduction, the kidnappers sent a ransom note to Nasser’s family, demanding a half
million Egyptian pounds in exchange for the men’s return. Because Christians
are rarely protected by law enforcement in Egypt, this incident reflects a disturbing trend
in the rise of Christian kidnappings at hands of Muslim attackers, who seldom fear legal
repercussions for their actions.
● November 28 – In the village of Nazlet Ebeid in Mina, a dispute between neighboring
Muslim and Christian villages resulted in the death of one Christian and
more than 20 injuries. According to local reports, angered Muslims also looted and
burned several Christian homes.
● November 29 – In Cairo, Muslim supporters of former president Mohamed Morsi again held a
demonstration in front of St. Mary’s Church. During the protest, demonstrators defaced
the walls of the church with the phrase, “Here is the place of the pigs and slaves.”
A large-scale attack against a Christian community also took place this day, as more than
40 homes were ransacked, 10 homes burned, and 15 Christians — including a 14-year-
old girl who was thrown from the rooftop of her home — were injured during this violent
incident.
● November 30 – While working on his farm in the Nazlet Ebeid village, a Christian man
was shot and killed by a group of Muslim attackers.
As the nation struggles to recover from months of civil and political unrest, Christians in Egypt
have remained caught in a tangled web of fear, injustice, and often violent persecution. Please
remember to pray for these Egyptian brothers and sisters in Christ.
